GCSE Results 2010
30% of year 11 students gained five or more A*-C grades with mathematics and English and 59% A-C in any subject.
Executive Headteacher Mr Tippett said "The school has hit national baseline targets" and added "The school is extremely pleased
considering the uncertainty about the school for the past three years."
FUTURE OF THE SCHOOL
Press Release from Brian Palmer, the Chair of the Stanway Federation:
The Governors of the Stanway Federation met on June 25th and agreed that the
Federation would integrate and become a single school on multiple
sites as soon as possible.
They noted that ‘Building Schools for the Future’
wave 6 funding for Colchester might well be curtailed. As a consequence
our Local Authority’s plans for ‘The Future of Secondary Education
in Colchester’ would be difficult to deliver. The schools in the
Federation, like all the providers of secondary education in Colchester,
have foundation status. So it falls to the Governors of the Federation,
in consultation with the local authority, to make alternative arrangements
in the best interests of the schools and students.
The Governors therefore agreed that the Stanway
School would, from September 2011, be willing to accept the current
8 forms of entry onto the Stanway site and up to a further 6 forms
of entry onto the Thomas Lord Audley site.
Stanway School could accept a further 4 forms of
entry onto the Alderman Blaxill site but pupil numbers in Colchester
would appear to be insufficient for that to be a viable before about
2017.
The Federation supposes that, in view of the bureaucratic
constraints, it is now too late for the Local Authority’s notices
of closure for Thomas Lord Audley and Alderman Blaxill Schools,
and the consequential rearrangement of catchment areas and feeder
primary schools, to be rescinded for September 2010.
It has been proposed to the Local Authority that
the Mersea Island catchment area be shared between Stanway and Thurstable
Schools from September 2011.
